BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year
This Computing with Foundation Year course offers a structured pathway into the field of computing, beginning with the development of essential academic and employability skills. The Foundation Year also introduces key computing concepts, providing a strong base for progression into higher-level study.
In the first year of the degree, students will explore how to interpret and evaluate data within the context of computing and IT. The curriculum introduces fundamental theories and practical approaches to decision-making and problem-solving through the core themes of Technology, Software, and Data.
At Level 5, this course builds upon those foundations by focusing on the application of computing principles to real-world scenarios in business and industry. Students will further develop their technical knowledge and problem-solving capabilities, culminating in an industry-related project. This experience also helps improve communication skills through the presentation of findings to a varied audience—an essential attribute in all technology-focused careers.
In the final year, students continue to deepen their expertise across the three themes: Technology, Software, and Data. The course emphasises the practical application of computer science principles across sectors such as business, commerce, and industry. A final comprehensive project aligned with one of these core areas allows students to demonstrate their critical thinking, technical expertise, and problem-solving abilities in tackling real-world challenges.
